I am Boris, owner and founder of EDR Experts and in this first blog post, I'll discuss our mission, and vision in greater detail. Stay tuned for the next two blog posts, where I'll discuss the logics of our branding, as well as our requirements for choosing partners and products.

EDR Experts was founded with a singular, powerful mission - to democratize access to top-tier cybersecurity products and services for individuals and small businesses.

Who stands to benefit from our high-calibre cybersecurity services?

• Entrepreneurs and remote workers lacking in-house IT expertise.
• Cryptocurrency owners and users, given the allure of crypto wallets to nefarious actors.
• Individuals whose devices are repositories of significant information.
• Online shoppers and digital banking users.
• Parents seeking to shield children online, as well as their homes and devices from potential threats, linked to online gaming, game mod downloads, and other unchecked content.

The cybersecurity market is awash with offerings from renowned brands. While these products do deliver, those tailored for home users often exhibit the following characteristics:

• A mild, balanced approach to thwarting cyber-attacks, consisting of a blend of protection, performance, user-friendliness (often overly emphasized), and minimal false positives.
• Many features found in business products are pared down, and replaced with what could be deemed as bloatware - Tune-Up tools that replicate the functionality of built-in Windows tools like disk cleaner, privacy protection features (password leak checker), password managers (already integrated into modern browsers), and more. While these features are handy, they deviate from the core mission of safeguarding information from cyber threats.
• Home products, in general, are not designed or equipped to handle advanced cyber-attacks, stemming from the long-held belief that home users are unlikely to face such threats. However, with cybercriminals now having unfettered access to potent tools that significantly enhance their capabilities, it’s time this belief was put to rest.

From the above, it’s clear that business-grade protection isn’t just the right choice - it’s the only choice. But this software isn’t without its challenges:

• The sheer volume of business cybersecurity products far exceeds those for home users. Selecting the right one would be an insurmountable task for users and even IT admins without investing substantial time in field research and solution testing.
• Testing these solutions typically requires a business email address, which most individuals lack.
• Even after testing these products, users may struggle to draw meaningful conclusions about the product’s efficacy against sophisticated attacks.
• Business-grade products are complex to manage and necessitate a deep understanding of the operating system, software, networking, the threat landscape, and more. Comprehensive admin guides, laden with jargon, must also be digested.
• Sourcing business-grade products can be challenging, as many are not offered as single licenses and require a reseller. For individuals or small groups, resellers may not even respond to inquiries, leaving those with heightened security needs in the lurch.

So, how  EDR Experts plan to revolutionize this landscape?

While we still intend to collaborate with a few home-oriented vendors to broaden our customer base, our primary focus is on business solutions. We meticulously select our partners (our selection process will be detailed in our second blog post), delve deep into their offerings, and stay abreast of the latest threats. We identify potential gaps in the overall security posture, many of which we can address with proprietary system hardening. We keep an eye out for false positives that need remediation. We extend all these services to individual home users and small business owners. For larger businesses with IT experts or a full-fledged cybersecurity team, we can provide licensing and access to a broad spectrum of technical resources.
